Aoibhneas' work with women escaping Violence in the Home has helped frame some recent research.

Research objectives:

  • To determine the models of best practice nationally and internationally;
  • To explore women's unmet needs in dealing with Violence in the Home,
    and so help expand the role of Aoibhneas in Dublin's northside so that
    it can respond more effectively to women and children who are experiencing Domestic Violence in the locality.

Approaches to data collection:

  • A review of new models of intervention;
  • Semi-structureded interviews with statutory service providers and other
    voluntary service providers in the local area who assist women experiencing
    Violence in the Home;
  • Background interview with the Garda Domestic Violence and Sexual
    Assault Unit, Dublin;
  • Background interviews with Aoibhneas staff;
  • Five background interviews with experts working in the field of Domestic
    Violence in Britain and Ireland;
  • A review of the Aoibhneas data base on occupancy rates and categories;
  • A short questionnaire administered to clients of the refuge over a two-month
    period about their range of needs;
  • Background interviews with clients and former clients of Aoibhneas;
  • Extended qualitative interviews with current clients of Aoibhneas;
  • Extended qualitative interviews with women who experienced Violence in the
    Home but who never sought trained help to resolve their situation.
